The railway has been built on the old formation of the Ruabon to Barmouth GWR branch line and is approximately 4 1/2 miles in length. The railway uses the original GWR stations at Llanuwchllyn and Bala (Penybont Halt). Llangower halt disappeared many years ago and a new, purpose-built platform has been erected by the railway.

| Llanuwchllyn is the main terminus of the railway and is where the trains start and finish their days' work. The station boasts the original GWR Station Building which has been converted to house the cafe, shop and toilets, and the the original GWR signal box that contains the only double-twist lever frame still in it's original 'box in the UK. You are welcome to visit the signal box to have a look around so long as there is a member of staff on duty. At the far end of the yard you will find the Locomotive Running Shed where the engines are housed overnight and prepared in the morning. If a member of staff is on duty, you are welcome to have a look round. There is a large car park and visitors are encouraged to start their trip from Llanuwchllyn station. |

| Llangower is the main intermediate station on the line, situation very close to the shores of the lake. This is a perfect place to alight from the train and enjoy a picnic on the beach or a walk around the headland to enjoy the view. Just past the platform, there is a passing loop although this is only used on special occasions when more than one train is working on the line. Limited car parking and toilet facilities are provided by the National Park at Llangower station. | ![]() |

| Bala is the northern terminus of the line and is situated about 1/2 mile from the centre of Bala town. Apart from a simple waiting shelter, there are no passenger facilities at Bala station. Parking is restricted to on-road parking. |
